Discover the best areas of Artá to see birds

HUMANIZED ZONES

Many birds have adapted to human action: urban centers protect them from predators and agricultural areas offer them food. Species such as cabots, wedge and gorrions are typical of villages; others (caderners, titins, etc.) live in orchards and crops. These birds eat insects and rodents, help the farmer, but are very sensitive to pesticides.

FORESTS

Alzinars and pinars are the habitat of almost exclusive birds such as the king, the traincapinyons or the pineapple, as well as other species of garrigas and tree crops. The forest area on the Levant Peninsula is small due to ancient fires. It’s everyone’s job to help regain forests.

THE SEA

The sea and coastline welcome birds very adapted to this environment, mostly marines that feed on fish (corbmarine, masquerell, etc.). Some, like the virots, only go to the ground to reproduce. Seagulls also live far from the coast, eating vegetables, animals and even manure. There are well-preserved sections of coastline for these birds in the Levant Peninsula.

HUMID ZONES

The presence of fresh or salt water allows unique ecosystems. Birds like fucking or water hen live there permanently, while many others use them to eat and rest during the winter or migrations. The torrents of Na Borges and Canyon are the most important wetlands in the back.
